Skydance's New Mega-Merger Trailer Flexes DC, 'Top Gun' and Dune Under One Roof

For most moviegoers, studio mergers are background noise — until they change how many streaming services you have to pay for. This week, the background noise got loud. With the Warner Bros. and Skydance merger now complete, the newly combined giant has released a mega-trailer that scans as one enormous flex of intellectual property: Superman, Batman, Harry Potter, Dune, Top Gun, and the worlds of Dune, all under one roof.

The trailer is part announcement, part victory lap. Suddenly, the DC Universe, the Wizarding World, Taylor Sheridan's television empire — including Landman and The Madison — and the Top Gun franchise all answer to the same parent company. HBO Max and Paramount+, once rivals, are now siblings. As one report put it, Skydance is now basically everything that is not Disney or Netflix.

What the trailer is really saying

The clip leans hard on Warner Bros.' crown jewels — caped crusaders and boy wizards — before cutting to Paramount's contemporary heavy hitters. There is even a surprising amount of Leonardo DiCaprio, from Inception to Titanic to The Great Gatsby, as if to remind viewers that star power now lives in the same house as the franchises. It is less a trailer for any single project and more a statement of intent: this is what the new map of Hollywood looks like.

And the map is already being redrawn. Reports this week indicate that Warner film chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy will not be part of the new management team, with Paramount's Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg expected to oversee both studios — leaning, by all accounts, toward IP-driven slates. The go-forward Warner lineup reportedly still includes The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, The Batman Part II, Gremlins 3 and A Minecraft Movie Squared.

What it means for viewers

The immediate question is the one every merger raises: how many subscriptions will this cost you? With HBO Max and Paramount+ sharing a parent, consolidation feels inevitable — and in an era where Disney just raised prices for the fourth time in four years, nobody should expect mergers to make streaming cheaper. The combined library also gives the new company enormous leverage in licensing talks, theatrical negotiations and the next round of the streaming wars. For now, though, the trailer is doing its job. It is a reminder that in 2026, the most powerful weapon in Hollywood is not a single movie. It is the library.
