'Drishyam: The Conclusion' Storms Day 1 With ₹66.75 Crore Net, Second-Biggest Bollywood Opener of 2026
Vijay Salgaonkar is not done burying secrets — or burying box office records. Ajay Devgn's Drishyam: The Conclusion, the third and final chapter of Bollywood's most beloved crime thriller franchise, has opened to a monstrous ₹66.75 crore net on its first day, according to early trade estimates. The Friday collection, achieved across more than 15,700 shows nationwide, makes it the second-biggest Bollywood opener of 2026, sitting just behind Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar 2.
The numbers, reported by trade trackers on October 3, paint the picture of a release that had the entire Hindi belt waiting. India's gross for the opening day stands at an estimated ₹80.10 crore, with overseas territories adding another ₹15 crore to take the worldwide gross to roughly ₹95.10 crore in a single day. For a franchise built on quiet ingenuity rather than spectacle, these are the kind of figures that usually belong to star-driven action extravaganzas.
What should really excite the makers is the trajectory through the day. Morning shows opened at a solid 46.38% occupancy — already ahead of Dhurandhar 2's morning occupancy of 43.15%, a symbolic win given the comparison doing the rounds — and the film only gathered pace. Afternoon occupancy climbed to 70.15%, evening shows hit 75.31%, and night shows closed near 76.46%, with the Hindi 2D version averaging 67.08% occupancy for the day. That kind of momentum through the day usually means word of mouth is doing the heavy lifting overnight.
A franchise finale with a twist nobody saw coming
The extraordinary response was hardly an accident. The franchise enjoys near-total recall among Hindi audiences — who could forget the October 2 alibi from the first film, a date the makers cheekily chose for this finale's release on Gandhi Jayanti — and the final installment arrived with one irresistible promise: this ending is different. While the first two Hindi films closely followed Mohanlal's Malayalam originals, Devgn and the team have confirmed that The Conclusion charts its own course, which gave even franchise veterans a reason to buy tickets on day one.
Director Abhishek Pathak returns behind the camera with the core cast — Tabu as the relentless Meera Deshmukh, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor and Ishita Dutta — joined by two heavyweights playing new characters: Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj, whose presence has reportedly added fresh pressure on Vijay's carefully guarded secret.
Advance booking was the real trailer
The storm was visible in advance sales. The film crossed $125K in USA advance bookings alone, comfortably beating the American presales of Ajay Devgn's own Singham Again by a wide margin, and domestic advances had already crossed ₹20 crore with over 5.4 lakh tickets sold before release. Trade watchers had flagged that the film could push past the half-century mark on opening day; it cleared that bar with room to spare.
For Bollywood, the timing matters. The industry has had a bruising year with several mid-size films failing to connect, and a heritage thriller franchise delivering the second-biggest opening of 2026 is a reminder that audiences still turn up in force for stories they trust. If the weekend holds at anywhere near this level, Drishyam: The Conclusion will not just end a trilogy — it will end the year as one of its defining box office stories.
