'American Horror Story: 13' Just Set the Franchise's All-Time Streaming Premiere Record
Thirteen seasons in, American Horror Story is not just surviving — it is setting records. The franchise's milestone thirteenth season has officially delivered the best streaming premiere in the anthology's history, drawing around 4 million views worldwide on Hulu and Disney+ in the four days following its September 24 debut. For a show that helped bring anthology storytelling back to television in the early 2010s, it is a full-circle triumph.
The numbers, reported by The Hollywood Reporter based on FX's internal data, are staggering. The three premiere episodes total just 90 minutes of runtime, which translates to roughly 476 million minutes watched. That marks a 50 percent increase over 2024's Delicate and nearly doubles the premieres of the two seasons before it. It also became the biggest streaming launch ever for a Ryan Murphy show on Hulu and Disney+ — and the series is on track to land on Nielsen's top 10 streaming lists when the next tallies drop.
Taking over the world
The records do not stop at the premiere numbers. Per FlixPatrol, American Horror Story shot to No. 1 on Hulu in the United States within two days of the premiere and has held the spot since. On Disney+, it is the No. 1 series in the U.S. and trending in countries from Canada to Brazil to Portugal. The horror anthology even claimed the No. 1 show spot worldwide on Prime Video in international markets — a genuinely global takeover for a franchise leaning hard into its unlucky-number-13 theme.
The appetite was already there. In the two-plus years between the end of Delicate and the premiere of season 13, U.S. viewers streamed 7 billion minutes of the show's full library, according to Nielsen — about 259 million minutes a month. The new season simply gave that audience somewhere to go.
The crossover gamble
Season 13 is the franchise's most ambitious swing yet: a crossover event uniting protagonists from across the show's history, with Angela Bassett, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts and Billie Lourd all reprising roles from previous installments. Co-creator Ryan Murphy has teased an Avengers-style collision of timelines, and the early episodes are delivering on the promise — with Cordelia Goode's apparent death, Constance's dealings and a portal to hell beneath the Apollyon building driving the chaos.
New episodes are releasing in small weekly batches every Thursday through October, building to the season finale on October 29 — just in time for Halloween. Divided fans and all, one thing is undeniable: American Horror Story has never been bigger.
